Bine ați venit!
My name is Joseph Lutz. In June 2018, I started my Peace Corps journey in the country of Moldova, serving as a Community Economic Development volunteer. I primarily work in a library with secondary partners being the local school, primaria, and local NGO. My area of work is in community and economic development, working to make these organizations in my village more sustainable.
In May 2017, I graduated from Purdue University. And prior to serving in the Peace Corps, I worked for a local museum and the Department of Parks & Rec in a city government in the state of Indiana (If you are thinking of the TV show, my job was only a little like that). I loved those jobs and living in the Midwest, but now I am excited for this new chapter in my life. I have created this blog to make it easier for everyone back home to follow along with this journey I will be on for the next 2 years and to help people become more knowledgeable about the country of Moldova. Thank you for reading.
About Peace Corps:
The Peace Corps was formed in 1961 under President John F Kennedy. Since its founding, over 220,000 volunteers have served in over 60 countries.Volunteers spend 27 months spending time in host communities to help local people in the areas of Health, Environment, Education, Youth Development, Community Development, and Agriculture. The mission of the Peace Corps is three-part:
To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
Additionally, Peace Corps also has a set of global initiatives across all partner countries such as “Let Girls Learn,” which focuses on improving access to education for women and young girls. For more information about the Peace Corps, visit their website: https://www.peacecorps.gov.
